Content, design, and layout

The minimum requirements for a publication include the title of the publication and the name of the author as well as the academic text itself.

For qualification theses, the curriculum vitae, the declaration of originality, and similar documents should not be included in the publication. Most importantly, original scanned signatures should be avoided. Please carefully consider what personal information you want to disclose.

Text documents should be created in a platform-independent format such as PDF (preferably PDF/A). Other file formats, such as txt, csv, png, svg, and tif, are also accepted. Please follow the guidelines on these pages: https://www.oa.uni-stuttgart.de/en/opus/pdf-creation/ and https://www.oa.uni-stuttgart.de/en/opus/opus-upload/#id-a3b3e0f4-2

Legal information

As the operator and responsible authority for the institutional repository OPUS, the University Library must ensure that no third-party rights are infringed. By signing the license terms, you confirm that you are authorized to publish the material.

We need the authors to grant us a simple right of use (Sec. 31, par. 2 UrhG, Act on Copyright and Related Rights) for their work. By doing so, you grant us permission to publish your work on the Internet worldwide, freely accessible, for an indefinite period and irrevocably, as well as to store and convert your data as necessary.

By signing the license terms, the work is placed under the UB license. You can select the CC BY license additionally. You can find further information on CC licenses here (https://www.oa.uni-stuttgart.de/en/worth-knowing/creativecommons/). Please also include a reference to the CC license in the text.

You can also publish your work in academic journals or monographs as well as on other servers. However, you should ensure that, in that case, you do not assign any exclusive or sole rights – for example – to a publisher.

If the record has not yet been released by us and it is still in the workflow, you can contact us so that we can return the document to you for data exchange. Once the work has been published, you can upload a different version of the publication. This will then be linked to the existing one.

Deletion is not intended and only possible in justified exceptional cases.

That depends on the agreements you have made with the publisher.

Your publication is worldwide, available findable, and can be read and downloaded.

OPUS does not support the Collective Management Organization VG Wort. However, you have the opportunity to participate in the so-called special distribution of funds of VG Wort (DE) and can apply for a lump-sum remuneration for your work.
Information on the distribution payout see https://vgwort.de/fuer-urheber-und-verlage/urheber/online-e-books/online-e-books#block-0-kapitel-1 [DE]

Technical information

DOI stands for Digital Object Identifier. This ensures that the document will be permanently accessible via a persistent link.

Through its membership in a consortium, the University of Stuttgart Library can assign DOIs. When a document is published on OPUS, a DOI is assigned automatically. You can already see it when you submit the document.
